HONORED FATHER It gives me pleasure to hear my letters are such Welcome guests to yourself & Sister as I have such frequent Opportunities of giving you some little satisfaction that way, & you may rely upon it I shall let very few of them slip whether I have anything to say to you besides a few cursory thoughts I am glad tho' I had no doubt about it to hear the Neighbours are so attentive to you in your present situation Pray who were your Visitors the Sunday you went to Church to hear my poor Brother's funeral Sermon? An account of such little particulars is very agreeable, as it in a manner brings the absent into your Company Though it would not become me to advise yet I must say I should be glad to hear that Sister & yourself had come to a resolution to give some interruption to your Sorrow by a Visit to some friends that your hearts approve I dare say you are before hand with me in think- ing of Rug on this Occasion In your last you hint that you would stay for my coming to the country that we might go together but as it is impossible for me to fix the exact time of reaching you I could Wish you would make that Visit without me besides this is the most opportune Season as the good effects proposed by such a Visit on such an unhappy occasion are to alleviate & break the Sorrow I am persuaded Vron must be at present the most melancholy scene you can be in as everything in & about it must bring to the minds many a little circumstance concerning my dear deceased brother each of which must feed & keep alive your Grief If these thoughts should succeed in prevailing with you to change the heavy scene awhile I shall be happy in having thrown them together I hope to have the bosom satisfaction from it of having blended a little ease & comfort with the affliction of my Father & Sister both whose I am HONORED FATHER I am obliged to you the further particulars concerning my poor brother's Funeral, & it gives me satisfaction to see every article handsomely conducted. I can say no more but that he well deserved it-I had a mourning Ring to his Memory brought home yesterday If Sister & yourself should be disposed to have one, I'll bespeak them if you please of the same Jeweller in Town & bring them down with me when I come-Yesterday I had a Visit from little Bob: Wat: Wynne whose little heart was concerned not a little for the loss of his old friend & favorite my poor Brother; he could not help shedding tears on the occasion, I admire & love his sincerity. it was but yesterday Morning he received two lines from me informing him of the sad news & the poor little fellow ran to me immedi- ately without any loss of time to see me on the occasion. I never saw so improving a child, he proceeds amazingly in his learning & is at present without exaggeration more like a young Gentleman of the University than School Please God to grant him & all of us health I expect to see him a shining character; he is in rare health & I have the pleasure to send the same Account of myself who am Honored Father Source: Copy.
