ARTHURIANA FROM THE GENEALOGICAL MANUSCRIPTS THE following excerpts from the genealogical manuscripts are all concerned, in one way or another, with Arthurian Romance, and may be of interest to students of the subject. Editing is confined to punctuation, the use of capitals and the extension of abbreviations. It is a curious fact that the name Arthur was extremely rare among Welshmen in Wales. I have found no example of its occurrence from the time of Arthur ap Pedr of Dyfed1 (late sixth century) up to the end of the sixteenth century at least. The fact is of some interest and needs explanation. Was there some superstition about the name?
