117 Hugh Williams, born Daisyback, near Gumfreston, Pembrokeshire, in 1795. Vicar of Bassaleg, Monmouthshire, and Chancellor of the Diocese and Welsh Examining Chaplain to the Bishop of Llandaff 1845. Lord Llanover's cousin. 118 The Rev. Charles Ranken Hall (1812-1890), brother of Lord Llanover. 119 The Rev. David Howell (Llawdden, 1831-1903). 120 The Pev. David Charles III (1812-1878). 121 The Rev. Robert Thomas (1810-1884) was minister of Hanover Congregational Chapel, Llanover, from 1847-1884. I am indebted for this information to Mr. W. John Collett, Borough Librarian, Newport, Monmouthshire. 122 Dolau Cothi, 91 miles north-west of Carmarthen, on the northern border of Carmarthenshire. 123 Henry Ray Freshfield's address is given in Lord Llanover's will as 'Bank Buildings, London'. 124 Col. Henry Morgan Clifford, Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Monmouthshire in 1867, resided at Llantilio House, Abergavenny, in 1865. He was M.P. for Hereford. He married on 12 April 1834, Catherine Hainette York, and had one son, one daughter. I am indebted to Mr. W. John Collett, Borough Librarian of Newport, for this information. 125 A Captain Ross was present on various occasions at Llanover, but no Christian name is ever mentioned, and it has proved im- possible to identify him. In The History of the Frasers by Alexander Mackenzie (A. & W. Mackenzie, 1896) p. 722, Hugh Fraser, (ancestor of the present writer) had a daughter Margaret (d. 1835) who married David George Sandeman of Springland, near Perth, and had among numerous other issue a daughter Elizabeth who married Ross of Oakbank, and had a son Thomas Ross (born 1807) who married Amelia Crawshay (d. 1707) a daughter of William Crawshay (II) of Caversham Park Oxfordshire and Cyfarthfa Castle, Glamorgan (a cousin of Lord Llanover). This is not borne out by the Crawshay and Sandeman genealogies in Burke's Landed Gentry, which show that it was Thomas Fraser Sandeman (1807-1888) the eldest son of Margaret Fraser and David George Sandeman above mentioned who married Amelia Crawshay in 1843. 126 Cardiff Times, 18 May 1867. 127 Gentleman's Magazine, June 1867, p. 814. 128 ibid. 129 Mrs. Elizabeth Jenkins of Llanover, who died in 1958. 130 Dolau Cothi letters, N.L.W. The letter, on mourning paper, was dated by Lady Llanover 8 Novr. (the anniversary of Lord Llanover's birthday.) The year '1866' was endorsed on it by Betha Johnes, but this is obviously incorrect.
