only education in it is a knowledge of the value of time-saving and accuracy, and its chief recom- mendation is the production of cheap clerks with undeveloped mentality-just stupid machines. Mere drilling in these three subjects will produce accurate, steady and stupid clerks in minor positions, of no use for higher posts. In a bad system of commercial training the only education a pupil can get is to be rapidly taught a number of matters of routine and the odds and ends of counting-house practice--technical terms, abbreviations, descriptions of documents, the handling of cash and cheques, and so on. SYR BARRUG. Pa swynwr fu o dy i dy Ar ol dechreunos neithiwr ? Pa lawrudd mwyn fu trwy y llwyn, O'r machlud hyd y plygain ? Ai rhyw gonsurwr ar ei dro A ddaeth o fro y dwyrain ? Ni thorrodd frig o brennau'r wig, Na hun y dail na'r adar Ond ni bu dim mor dlws erioed A choed y bore cynnar. Pa ddewin gwyn fu wrth y llyn Pan oedd y tonnau'n cysgu, A'r hesg yn synnu ar y air Mewn llewyg pêr o'r ddeutu ? Ni cblywwyd sain y pensaer cain, Na thine ei forthwyl dyfal Ond troes y merddwr cyn y wawr Fel llawr i bias o risial. Eifion Wyn. So far as County Schools are concerned, provided that Industrial History (first year) and Economics (second and third years) be made obligatory as adjuncts, the technical part of a commercial equip- ment should be strictly confined to a fourth year, after three years of sound general education. The details of the working of commercial education need not detain us. It is the conception of the subject that matters. Commercial education is a toss-up for good or for evil let us see to it that it does not become an evil. HIRAETH. Harddwch yr hydref oedd ar y dail, A'i siffrwd yn nefni'r coed Ac yntau'n sefyll yn erw'r llan, A briw y bedd wrth ei droed. Unig ar wyneb y ddaear oedd, A thrist oedd ei lonnaf wen Ac yn ei ddagrau'r oedd serch ei oes, A hiraeth anaele'r hen. Tlysni ni welai, ond tlysni'r wedd Oedd mwyach i bawb y nghudd A swyn ni chlywai, ond swyn y Dais A dawsai ers Rawer dydd. Harddwch yr hydref oedd ar y dail, A'i siffrwd yn nhonn y gwynt A'i gartref iddo mor oer a'r bedd, A'r bedd fel ei gartref gynt. Eifion Wyn.
