educational institution, the foundation of which has so long been advocated as one of the most urgent needs of so thriving a metallurgical centre if Britain's place in the world of industry is to be maintained, is already well on the way towards success. Recognised by the authorities, possessed of means subscribed by local merchant princes which should soon make the endowment fund complete and adequate, and aided by a technical school which pro- vides a valuable nucleus, all that now remains is the com- pletion of details and the extension on collegiate lines of the present buildings, and equipment with the essential training power. Plans for the college have been prepared, and there will be no delay in carrying them out once the few remaining details are agreed on by the University authorities. Other works of municipal importance well in hand are a mental hospital in course of erection at Swansea by the Corporations of Swansea and Merthyr in co-partnership, and the building of a fever hospital adequate to the in- creased requirements. Last, tat by no means least, comes the provision of a Civic Centre. Here is a subject which has occupied the attention of the authorities for many years without coming any nearer to actual fruition. The great obstacle always has been agreement on a site, Perhaps now the borough has been extended, and that magnificent stretch of landscape between the town and the Mumbles has been embraced, difficulties hitherto apparent will be removed. One site favoured is the Victoria Park, which is right on the western end of the old borough boundary but an infinitely better site is the almost adjacent one of Singleton Park. Whether or not its acquisition is possible remains to be seen but if it is any reasonable amount of waiting would be worth the while, for on its delightfully wooded slopes, whence glorious views can be obtained over the charming Bay, could be laid out a civic centre of a beauty unequalled anywhere. When that time comes Swansea will surely have realized most of her present ambitions, for in addition to being a centre of health, a centre of learning, a centre of industry, she will be the possessor of the lovelies centre of civic administration in the world.
