Mr Waters describes The Moss Rose Press as "a reference book mainly for a specialised readership". It is that in the sense that it is a book about a small private press, and will therefore be of interest to those with a special interest in publishing, private presses, and hand printing. But it is also a book of much wider interest for people in Chepstow and Gwent. Because it gives a glimpse of the work and energy that went into the formation of a local history society, the establishing of a museum, and the production of over a hundred volumes of books and pamphlets. And it is a book that makes one want to read the autobiography that it is not. Because the story of the Waters and their work is as important (and in many ways more important) than the stories of the many people and institutions they have written about and researched. N.M.P.
