Museums Year 1989 1989 is 'Museums Year', so make sure you make the most of the museums in the county this year. Events which may be of interest to members and local historians in some of our museums are as follows: NEWPORT MUSEUM April-December The Chartists-An exhibition illustrating the work and social conditions of the people in South Wales 150 years ago in the era of Chartism. Sat. 20th May Museum Open Day-to celebrate Museums Year. This will include activity sessions in archaeology, natural history and local history and a look behind the scenes at the conservation laboratory. MONMOUTH MUSEUM 10th June-16th July Switched-On Monmouth-an exhibition about the history of electricity supply in the town, to complement a touring exhibition from the Science Museum 'Electrical Energy'. 22nd July-3rd Sept. Heraldry of Wales-an exhibition about the heraldic traditions of Wales based on the collections of the Welsh Folk Museum with local emphasis on heraldry in and around Monmouth including a town 'heraldry' trail. 1 1 th Nov.-Jan. 1990 Change and Decay-the Buildings of Monmouth-an exhibition looking at recent and planned developments in the town using the museum collections of photographs, prints, paintings and archives to assess the amount and quality of change. Associated activities will include guided tours of the town, gallery talks, worksheets for children and the publication of a revised Town Trail.
