The Gwent Local History Council Award 1988 The Gwent Local History Award is not a recognition of long-service, but of recent significant and permanent achievement in the study of the local history of the county of Gwent. This year the Local History Council has decided to recognise an ongoing mission: one which started over forty years ago, and still continues. Succeeding years have seen publication of some four dozen books, pamphlets and papers, which the author has not only written, but in recent years published, and indeed physically laboured in printing. The most recent, Mounton Valley Paper Mills near Chepstow, was published last year. This is an account of the nine paper-mills that flourished along the Mounton Brook from about 1727. This new edition has been reset & revised. It gives the Gwent Local History Council great pleasure, therefore, to present the 1988 Local History Award, sponsored by the South Wales Argus, to the doyen of local history in Chepstow-Ivor Waters.
