Council No.65 dated Autumn 1988. In this article the words®r'but this was an eccentric sort of learning restricted to the Benedictine Canons' occurs. I must point out that there is no religious order now or ever has been in the Catholic Church of this title. Llanthony Abbey was founded in the 12th cent. by Hugho de Lacy as a Priory for the Order of St. Augustine or Augustinian Canons. The court took an active interest in the first foun- dation under her former chaplain, Prior Emisius, supported by William the hermit-knight who was responsible for The choice of this remote site.
