Molebutton Cottage Lucy Rivers My house was built around about 1820, then it was split into two houses. In one half lived Mr. Miles who caught moles and in the other half lived Joe Button who was a cobbler. He became a cobbler because he had two club feet. He had to make his own boots and he became good so he made a living out of it. That is why our house is called Molebutton Cottage. After they moved out nobody lived there for 70 years. Although the Morgan family (my ancestors) owned the cottages, from then on nobody actually lived in the cottages until my great grandfather was born there in 1896. The roof on the old farm house was being repaired so they moved into the cottages for two weeks during which my great grandfather was born. Again for a long time no-one lived in the cottages, although during the wars they were used for storing potatoes then when my dad was a little boy the cottages were his favourite place and in 1975 he bought them off his great uncle and aunt for £ 1000 including six acres and a barn. By then What the house was like when we found it.
