Letters to the Editor 58A Windsor Road, Griffithstown, Pontypool, Gwent NP4 5HY Dear Friends Village Publishing is a community business enterprise set up with funding from the Welsh Development Agency with the intention of publishing work by Welsh authors about books and Wales. At present we are particularly interested in receiving good quality manuscripts on a variety of topics embracing all aspects of Welsh history and culture. To date we have published books on local history. Welsh folklore, aspects of the mining industry and a guided walk through Wales. Our latest book, which is currently at the printers, is a collection of prefaces by the celebrated Welsh writer of the early part of this century, Arthur Machen. The scope is obviously very wide-but subjects we are looking for could, for example, be historical surveys, travelogues, or collections of old prints or photographs. Since our aim is to be self supporting. Village Publishing publications need to be written to have popular appeal and cover relatively large population areas in order to be viable. If you would like to submit a manuscript, a brief summary or description of your book would be welcome initially. Village Publishing retail outlets include W H Smith, John Menzies and numerous bookshops, newsagents and tourist centres throughout Wales-so this is an opportunity not to be missed. Please write, care of Kath Nash, to the address at the top of this letter or alternatively, phone her on 0495 774816 outside office hours, if you have a manuscript you would like to discuss. Although we have to be very selective about the manuscripts we publish in order to safeguard the project (and books of poetry, novels and biographies are particularly difficult to market), we also offer a service to help authors to see their work in print if they are able to contribute to the printing costs. Please contact us to discuss how we can help. Yours faithfully Mel Witherden (for Village Publishing)
