We have been well-served by devoted secretaries, admirable chairmen and an able and energetic committee, as well as a long succession of committed journal editors whose standards I have striven to maintain. Here's to the next hundred. On this special occasion it is my pleasure to present this latest issue. Mark Elson and Ray Westlake make their debuts though I hope there will be more to come from them. Janet Wilson's previous work on boy criminals is here complemented by a study of girls; John Hilling continues his work on Tredegar in the nineteenth century with a detailed demographic study. Both Graham Osborne and Chris Smith take us way back beyond the nineteenth century with their studies of Risca and Caerleon, respectively, a reminder of the depth and richness of the historical heritage that we have around us. It is a heritage that this journal has celebrated for one hundred issues now: I am grateful to each and every author who has contributed to it; I am grateful too for the many loyal readers that the journal enjoys, who make its production such a rewarding activity.
