LIST OF THE MAMMALS OF BRECONSHIRE. By E. CAMBRIDGE PHILLIPS. The following list of the Mammals of Breconshire has been supplied by Mr. Cambridge Phillips, of Church House, Talgarth, one of our corresponding members. The list is of great interest, and is the first of the kind published from Breconshire. According to the latest work on British Mammals, by Millais, there are now but twelve recognised species of British Bats. The occurrence of the Greater Horse-Shoe Bat (R. ferritin- equinum) in Breconshire, is of exceeding interest. We have not yet obtained a specimen of this very local Bat in Glamorgan, but we believe that it has occurred in the neighbourhood of Swansea, and also in Pembrokeshire. The fact that a Pine Marten was killed near Brecon so recently as 15 years ago leads us to hope that the race is not yet extinct. One of the Pine Martens now in the Welsh Museum, Cardiff, was obtained from Breconshire about the same date. We are glad to hear that the much persecuted Badger is still holding his own in the County. May we hope that Mr. Cambridge Phillips will continue his work in this direction, and from time to time send us further interesting details.
