ORNITHOLOGICAL NOTES, 1927-28. By GEOFFREY C. S. INGRAM AND H. MORREY SALMON. The following are records of unusual or interesting occur- rences BRITISH GOLDFINCH, Carduelis c. britannica (Hart.). Mr. G. E. Blundell records a sudden local increase in numbers of this species at Nottage in the early part of May, 1928. Snow-Bunting, Plectrophenax n. nivalis (L.). One seen, Aberthaw, November 13th, 1927 (T. H. Williams). WHITE WAGTAIL, Motacilla a. alba (L.). We saw an adult at Llanishen Reservoir on April 8th, 1928. BRITISH NUTHATCH, Sitta europaea affinis Blyth. A pair at Hensol, January 22nd, 1928 (C. M. A.). The pair recorded breeding near Barry, 1925-27, were again at the same nesting hole in March, 1928 (J. A. H.). GREENLAND WHEATEAR, Oenanthe o. leucorrhoa (Gm.). A small party of six large wheatears, all with very brightly- coloured breasts, and undoubtedly of this race, was seen at Aberthaw on September 23rd, 1928. COMMON BUZZARD, Buteo b. buteo (L.). One was trapped at Penmark on March 13th, 1928; it was a very white variety, and is now in the National Museum of Wales. BITTERN, Botaurus s. stellaris (L.). Mr. H. M. Prichard reports that two were at Oxwich for several weeks in the early part of 1928. BEWICK'S SWAN, Cygnus b. bewickii Yarr. At Kenfig Pool, four on November 13th, thirteen (8 ad. and 5 juv.) on December 4th, and six on December 11th, 1927. Seven on January 8th, 25th, and February 5th, 1928. (C. M. A.). WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE, Anser albifrons (Scop.). At Mar- gam, five on October 16th and about 200 on December 13th, 1927 (H. E. D.). We saw a flock of about 50 on Flemingston Moors, March 9th, 1928, and the same flock, presumably, a few hours later over the Leys flying out to sea.
