SHEPHERD, F.C.A. Hon. Secretary: MR. HARMAN A. BowEN, A.R.I.B.A. Hon. Field Meeting Secretary: MRs. O. E. M. BowEN, B.A. Ordinary Members: Dr. H. N. SAVORY, M.A., F.S.A., Mr. D. SAGE, B.A., Mrs. AUDREY JENKINS, Mr. R. PITTS, M.A., M.Ed., Mr. T. W. WILTSHIRE, Mr. ARTHUR RICHARD, M.A., F.S.A., Miss B. Treatt, A.R.I.B.A., and Mr. T. F. R. JONES. During the Session the Section held seven meetings at the National Museum of Wales. There was an average attendance of 59 at these lectures, the subjects of which included: — Cardiff Records (T. J. Hopkins, B.A.), Roman Wales (Dr. M. Jarrett, B.A.), Dinorben Hillfort (Dr. H. N. Savory, M.A., F.S.A.), Lighthouses (Douglas Hague, A.R.I.B.A.), Wavland's Smithy reconsidered (Prof. R. J. C. Atkinson, M.A., F.S.A.). Several Field Meetings were held at places of archaeological interest, including Gelligaer, Llancarfan, Caldicot Castle, Llangwm and Usk. The average number taking part in these meetings was 42. The accounts at the 31st August showed a credit balance of £ 121. Total membership at the end of the Session was 249. During the Session the Section mourned the sudden passing of Mr. Maldwyn Randall Edmunds, who had been very closely associated with the Section for many years. He was perhaps not an archaeo- logist in the full meaning of the word, but he could impart local knowledge in such a friendly relaxed manner that his talks were invariably well received. He preferred lecturing informally, and was never more happy than when showing some of his delightful colour slides depicting details of churches in the Vale of Glamorgan. "M.R." will be long remembered by members of the Section. Session 1963-64 was notable for the granting of Honorary Membership of the Section to Mr. Arthur T. Richard, M.A., F.S.A. Honorary Membership is not granted lightly, but in Arthur Richard was honoured one who had given his best to the Section over many years. A Past President of the Section, and later of the Parent Society, Mr. Richard willingly imparted his very considerable knowledge of local architectural history on very many occasions. HARMAN A. BOWEN, Hon. Secretary
