(Crustacea Isopoda Oniscoidea) from Monmouthshire By PAUL T. HARDING and SALLY G. MURRELL (Monks Wood Experimental Station, Abbots Ripton, Huntingdon) Little has been published in the last two decades on the distribution of woodlice in the British Isles; Collinge (1943) listed, though unfortunately only on a county basis, the results of years of collecting, but some counties (not to mention vice-counties) are clearly under-recorded. Of the 36 species listed by Edney (1954) as occurring in the British Isles, only 3 species, Oniscus asellus L., Porcellio scaber Latreille and Porcellio spinicornis Say, are recorded by Collinge (1943) from Monmouthshire. No other published records from the county have been traced. The following 11 species have been collected on five occasions during 1966-67 from a small area in southern Monmouthshire (Vice-county 35), between Newport and Cardiff. The nomenclature and systematics follow Vandel (1960, 1962). Castleton (N.G.R.: ST(31)260830). Under stones and refuse in garden and in outbuildings of 'Gelli-ber'.
