OUTDOOR MEETINGS All-day field meetings were held at Ogmore River (September), Pembrey (October), Somerset (December), Slimbridge (January), Talybont Reservoir (March), Portland Bill (April), North Glamorgan and Powys (June) and Pembrokeshire (July). The field meeting to Tregaron Bog on 19 February was cancelled because of heavy snow. Half-day field meetings were held at St. Mary's Well Bay (Sepember), Welsh St. Donat's (October), River Rhymney (November), Llanishen/Lisvane Reservoirs (December), Wenallt (January), Kingsland-Old Station Yard (February), St.-y-Nyll (March), Hensol (April), Cwm Nash (May), Pentyrch (June), Caerphilly Mountain (June) and Aberthaw (August). Half-day field meetings to Dinas Powis Woods, led by Mr. Philip Atkin, were held monthly from September to July. Members of the Section took part in the following surveys; BTO Survey of Mute Swans (all other water birds were recorded at the same time). Ecological Survey of the Whitchurch Canal Nature Reserve carried out for the Cardiff Parks Department. Survey of Birds at the Cosmeston Ponds Country Park for the South Glamorgan County Council. Garden Birds of Glamorgan. The 15th Annual Bird Report for 1977, under the Editorship of Mr. Peter Lansdown, was completed in August 1978. MEMBERSHIP at 31 August 1978 was 273 full members, 26 junior member and one Honorary Member, making a total of 300. C. G. TREW, Hon. Some members also joined bird watching walks in Dinas Powis, which take place every month (throughout the year) and are led by Mr. Philip Atkin. DR. BERNFELD MEMORIAL COMPETITION The Dr. Bernfeld Memorial Competition was introduced during this session, and those taking part were asked to submit a scrap book, depicting either 'Cardiff, Past and Present' or 'The Natural History of Cardiff'. The closing date for entries was 31 March 1977, and prizes (of L5, E3 and £ 2) were awaded for the three best entries. The Parent Society very kindly agreed that these prizes (and those for subsequent competitions) should be made available from the Dr. Bernfeld Memorial Fund. JOCELYNE HUGHES, Hon. Secretary
