from other references within this volume, is the project sponsored by the Local History Committee of The Breconshire Rural Community Council, of writing up the 'Parish Scrap-book'. The response of the parishes to this challenge, and the ready co-operation of the organizations within them, promise well for a most valuable contribution in the field of Brecknockshire history. Here, indeed, is a venture that will go a long way in meeting the needs expressed in our Foreword of last year. We mourn the passing of Mr. Albert Leonard, M.B.E., the Secretary of the Breconshire Education Committee for the past 54 years, and one of the secretaries of our Editorial Committee. Undoubtedly, in Mr. Leonard, we had an authority on education, a great and enlightened servant of the county, and a friend whose generous counsel and interest will be sorely missed. We extend cordial greetings to Mr. H. H. John, who was recently appointed Chief Administrative Assistant in the Education Department. Mr. John has been invited to take the place of the late Mr. Leonard as one of the Joint Editorial Secretaries. We heartily congratulate Alderman J. G. Eadie upon receiving the O.B.E. in recognition of his distinguished public services. No honour has been more richly deserved. It is, again, a pleasant duty to thank all who have so readily contributed to this volume, and the subscribers whose confidence and support make the publication of Brycheiniog possible. The number of subscribers is steadily increasing, and it is hoped that with the appearance of this volume we shall win many more. It will be a great and happy occasion when Brycheiniog becomes a completely subscribed publication. We are making steady headway, and are well within sight of that desired goal. It may well be reached next year when we celebrate the bicentenary of the birth of Theophilus Jones, the historian of Brecknockshire, with an article on the historian, written by a descendant, Mr. T. Rhys Jones of Exmouth. The same volume will include an extensive and authoritative contribution, profusely illustrated, on 'The Geomorphology of Brecknock', by Mr. Trevor M. Thomas, Assistant Research Officer, Welsh Office, Ministry of Housing and Local Government, Cardiff. It is a privilege to renew our expressions of immeasurable gratitude to the Welsh Church Acts Committee for its continued generosity, and to acknowledge the valuable services of the Museum and Local History Sub-Committee, the Editorial Committee and, in particular, the small Editoral Sub-Committee, composed of Miss A. B. Jones, Mr. Onfel Thomas, Mr. Deiniol Williams and Mr. Gerald Phillips. Finally, our warm thanks to Sir W. L. Parker, our Chairman, for his wise and kindly direc- tion, and for his profound and practical interest in the cause we are striving to serve.
