THE PLACE-NAMES OF DEVYNOCK HUNDRED IV GLYNTAWE This paper is the fifth of a projected series forming a detailed study of The Place- names of Devynock Hundred in the former County of Brecknock. Since completing this paper there has been a revision of the community boundaries which became effective in 1986. As a result, Glyntawe ceased to exist as a community and most of its area was incorporated into the newly formed Llywel Community with the remaining southern part given to the new Tawe-uchaf Community. Apart from the above statement, this paper, together with all future parts of the project, takes no account of these changes for the following reasons. Until 1986 the communit- ies corresponded very closely to the historic parishes and hamlets and are easy to correlate. Moreover, most modern reference and history books continue to use the historic counties and parishes as the new ones are, in historic and literary terms, of too recent origin to have aquired their own significance. Also by 1986, the project had reached such an advanced stage, with a few papers already in print, that any change mid-way would have been difficult to implement. An Introduction describing the whole project will be found in Brycheiniog XXI, 73-6, with Abbreviations, Bibliography & Sources in XXI, 76-9 and XXII, 78; to which must be added the following.
